Things have been so, so hectic recently! On July 1st I started work as an internal medicine intern. :O But surprise, it’s nothing like Grey’s Anatomy. So far, it’s been full of ups and downs. The days are crazy and sometimes long.. I usually end up working about 70 hours a week. As doctors we are constantly telling people to eat right, exercise, etc etc. But when I was a med student I noticed that a lot of residents never have time to follow their own advice!
But I was bound and DETERMINED to not let that be me!! After working so hard the past year and a half to lose 15 pounds, and make countless strides in my strength & running, I didn’t want all that hard work to go to waste. So I have been meal prepping my butt off, only buying healthy eats so I won’t be tempted, and practicing some SERIOUS self restraint at work. (Seriously I passed up donuts today and the struggle was real.) So far this month I have lost THREE pounds! I’ve also been exercising six. Days. a week. No excuses!
So, honestly, this has required some adjustments. My meals have to be easy to carry in a lunch box, easy to eat while working (sometimes while walking around.. white coat pockets are secretly for snacks) and satisfying. It couldn’t have been more perfect when I received some Bob’s Red Mill protein in the mail to sample all their various flavors!
I’ve known of this brand for a while, because they make almond flour / meal, etc, which I have been using for baking since starting Tone It Up. And they just came out with this selection of awesome new flavors!
So I have been carrying a protein shake with me to work! Every. Single. Day.
It keeps me full, it is great nutrition, and I reallyyyy love the sweeter flavors. They make it feel like a cheat meal when it’s really not! I also think it’s cool that these proteins have chia seeds in them. I have been trying to make sure I meet my recommended daily allowance of fiber — which is SUPER hard! And chia seeds have lots.
It’s been an amazing help to me and I’ve really noticed a difference. It’s been easy to slim down and tone up this month! Plus, I successfully passed on that donut, didn’t I?
I am so excited to try out all these various flavors.. Especially the chai one! I figure that could be good with coffee in the mornings, in a nice icy smoothie. It’s way too hot here to drink your coffee warm!
The good news is, I will be sharing my favorite recipes in about a week, right on here. PLUS — I’ll be hosting a giveaway! So you can enter for a chance to win a whole bag of protein in whatever flavor you want! Isn’t that awesome?
